...

go be in a basement with your friends

I’ve been seeing a lot of basement shows lately. That’s how it should be.

I saw Close Talker and Waxahatchee tonight.. and it made me want to start blogging about shows again. I love Close Talker’s demo and seeing them bring it to life is always fun. The atmosphere was off, people kept turning the lights off and the band members were getting frustrated. They played some new stuff, which I’m excited about. Can’t wait to hear their full length.

It was my first time seeing Waxahatchee and she was so subtle and quaint. I had to write this to try to capture that moment. She turned the lights off and had multi-colored string lights and candles lit. The slow but strong melodies fit perfectly with her powerfully soft voice. She seemed easily distracted by people moving around in the room, which is easy to understand because her sound isn’t very full, but rather solitary. Her presence and sound were enough to captivate the better half of the room, myself included. I just looked at her tour dates and she’s going all over the US for the next couple months. I can’t wait for more people to be exposed to her, and hopefully as moved as I am.
